Find me on:

I love baby's breath. It is stunning alone, just all by itself. I love how whimsical baby's breath is. Just holding a handful of baby's breath can make my day. I am a sucker for white, little flowers. They are heavenly little blossoms and I can't wait to explain and show you how to create beautiful flower masterpieces like baby's breath runners and baby's breath flower crowns with this gem.

BUT FIRST: the definition of Gypsophila.

(The real word for baby's breath, friends). Learn it and say it, impress your friends and guests at your wedding or shower with that trick. I have more tricks up my sleeve like that one so stick around.

Let's thank Wikipedia for the definition of baby's breath flowers below.

Gypsophila /dʒɪpˈsɒfɪlə/[1][2] is a genus of flowering plants in the carnation family, Caryophyllaceae. They are native to Eurasia, Africa, Australia, and the Pacific Islands.[3] Turkey has a particularly high diversity of Gypsophilataxa, with about 35 endemic species.[4] Some Gypsophila are introduced species in other regions.[3]

The genus name is from the Greek gypsos ("gypsum") and philios ("loving"), a reference to the gypsum-rich substrates on which some species grow.[3] Plants of the genus are known commonly as baby's-breath,[3][5] a name which also refers specifically to the well known ornamental species Gypsophila paniculata.

We worked with a beautiful bride a couple of weekends ago where we did some of her florals for her wedding here in Charleston. She got married at Leon's Oyster Shack in the back of Leon's Restaurant. It was stunning and is such a magical place to get married and have a celebration of love. We were thrilled to be a small part of her day.

It was magical getting to work with this much baby's breath and honestly was such a fun process to make the baby's breath runner. I hope I get another wedding or event that we can do this for!

Step 1 for the Baby's Breath Runner: Get your supplies ready! That means buying A LOT of baby's breath. We knew we needed enough to cover this whole table so we grabbed up I think around 15 bunches.

You will also need some paddle wire- floral wire and cutters to get started. That is all you really need and you just work through in sections one by one until you get the right amount you want on the runner. I did the runner in sections so we could easily transport it to the venue and then connected the baby's breath runner sections to each other once we got there with more floral wire.

You can see an example in a bunch here and you start to wrap it around the floral wire and keep moving down to get the length that you want. Just keep adding those bad boys until you get the right depth and consistency in the baby's breath that you are looking for.

For her bridal flower crown and her daughters' flower girl flower crown she shared some inspiration photos via Pinterest that she liked. I tend to ask brides and anyone ordering anything through me to send me photos of flowers they like and general vibe of what they want. That helps me to get the creative juices flowing and then we go from there. I tend to like to work with brides and bachelorette parties who give me free reign to let my creative juices flow. So starting with general colors and if you have an overall feeling you want is good enough to get started!

For her daughter's flower girl flower crown I stuck with white baby's breath and white/light pink wax flower. I made the flower girl crown with an opening in the back and added in a beautiful white lace for closure. For the brides flower crown I opted for white raninculas, baby's breath and wax flower.
